Cooper Union ARCH1 Architectonics

The Cooper Union school of architecture 1st year spring semester

The objective of this project is to design a gallery that contains two light rooms and two dark rooms on a site at Astor Place in New York. The design first originates from a geometrical figure made out of cone.

This gallery is differentiated two different types of gallery, with and without natural light, by creating different size of openings. By orienting the larger opening of the truncated cones, the natural light is either maximized or minimized according to the definition of each room. The circulation through the building is created by the tangency along the conic geometry of the building as the adjacency of the rooms. The stairs are located along the cylindric walls of the gallery.
